Oxygen Barrier PEX Tubing

Oxygen diffusion is a topic often mentioned when discussing Radiant HeatSystems. Oxygen diffusion refers to the ability of oxygen to pass through certain materials such as PEX. The problem with oxygen diffusion is that it can cause corrosion of metal(iron, cast iron) components in a Radiant Heat or hydronic heating system. The solution to this problem is to use oxygen barrier PEX tubing such as Wirsbo hePEX Tubing, Mr. PEX-al-PEX Tubing, and Wirsbo Multicor Tubing. This oxygen barrier tubing will prevent oxygen from damaging any of the components in the system.

Wood Flooring with Radiant Heat

There are many myths and misconceptions regarding the use of wood floors over a Radiant Heat System. However, there are several important things to remember. First 80 degrees should be the max floor temperature used for wood floors. Next, the narrower the boards (the more nails, and the more boards) the less the movement will be due to expansion and contraction of the wood. Finally the harder the wood the more stable it will be, and quarter sawn wood is more preferrable (but it is much more expensive). Floor sensors are a good tool to use with wood floors in a radiant heat system.

DIN 4726

DIN 4726 is a standard that is often mentioned when referring to PEX Tubing. This is a measure of the ability of PEX Tubing to prevent oxygen diffusion. This is a German Standard, which all of the oxygen barrier PEX and PEX-al-PEX on SupplyHouse.com pass. The Oxygen barrier prevents rusting of ferrous components in hydronic heating systems.

Radiant Heat Piping Schematics

In the coming weeks we will be adding several examples of radiant heat piping schematics to our website. The schematics will aid in the design and installation of our customers Radiant Heat Systems. Included in the drawings will be PEX tubing, manifolds, heat sources, pumps, valves, expansion tanks, air separators, and controls. We will attempt to enhance these schematics as time goes on.
