What controls do I need to zone a radiant heat system?

There are several different ways to control the zones in a radiant heat system. The first is to use zone valves to control the flow to individual manifolds in a radiant heat system. The second way is to use actuators (either thermal or motorized) to control the flow of each loop on a manifold. By doing this you can create more than one zone on a given manifold. Finally you can use pumps such as the Taco 007 pump to control the flow to each zone. There are advantages and disadvantages to each method. Depending upon the particuliar radiant system you are designing, one application may be more beneficial than another. (11/6/05)
