With traditional copper pipes, it's usually not the pipe that freezes, it's the water inside. For heating pipes, glycol is the perfect solution. By using a mixture of glycol and water, you will get the same full heating capacity as with water, but the glycol anti-freeze will prevent the liquid from freezing (even in the coldest temperatures). Glycol can also be used in PEX tubing for radiant heat systems. Just be sure not to use glycol in plumbing pipes where you will be drinking the water.
